Public Relation Officer is a fairly new term that has gained a very rapid spread in any organization be it commercial or non commercial, government or even informal in a very short period of time since its inception. Educational Qualification : In order to pursue a course under this area of PRO, bachelor or degree (preferably in social sciences, liberal arts and humanities) is needed.

How to become a PRO?

The aspiring candidates must complete the following steps to be appointed as a Public Relations Officer.

Step 1 : The interested candidate must also sit in an entrance test administered by the different institutions offering diploma and post graduate diploma courses in Public relations. The courses last a period of one year in most cases. Other than this, certificate courses are also offered in the short term. But, there are also colleges where admission is based on the percentage of marks received in the qualification class.

Step 2 : Once this 1-2 years course is completed where one has to take through all the major aspects such as principles and techniques of PR, PR management and administration, including organizational development, writing, placing a lot of emphasis on news releases, proposals, annual reports, scripts, speeches, etc, visual communications, including desktop publishing and computer graphics, and research, where a lot of emphasis is laid on social science research and survey design and implementation.
