How to become a Travel Agent?

In order to qualify as a Travel Agent one must have one or more of the following Courses.

Eligibility

Educational Qualification : Undergraduate level Travel and Tourism courses eligibility criteria is the higher secondary examination pass regardless of the stream and percentage of the marks attained.

Step 1 : Interested candidate must attend an entrance test by the different institutions offering undergraduate courses in tour and travel to offer admission to the candidates based on the position of the candidate in the entrance exam. These exams are typically conducted in the month Of May-June and will involve questions of Objective type on the subjects related to the results of these exams are normally published by June/ July. But there are those colleges too, which accept admission based on percent of marks gotten in the qualifying class.

Step 2 : Once one has done this course of 3-4 years where he/she has to cover all the major areas such as the Indian history, art and architecture. Besides the theoretical part, some practical training is also subjected to the travel agents. Upon completion of the course, there can be an option of working in some position in the travel agency, opting to his own agency or can pursue higher education in the same field.

Master of Tourism Administration (MTA)

Eligibility

Educational Qualification : Baccalaureate degree in any discipline and ability to communicate in one foreign language is desirable.

Step 2 : Post-graduate degree will enable one to attain managerial and administrative roles within the industry.
