What is the FMGE exam for?

FMGE is a computer-based qualifying exam conducted by NBEMS. It is held twice a year — in June and December.
This exam ensures that medical graduates from abroad meet the standards required to practice medicine in India. The exam is conducted online (computer-based) at designated centers across the country.

Eligibility Criteria for the FMGE exam

To apply for FMGE December 2025, candidates must make sure they meet the following conditions:

  • You must be an Indian Citizen or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).
  • You must hold a primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized foreign medical institution.
  • Medical degree must be completed before the FMGE application date.
  • Possess all the necessary documents for verification of medical education and eligibility.

How to Apply for FMGE December 2025

Follow these simple steps to submit your application:

  1. Visit the official NBEMS website
  2. Click on “FMGE December 2025” under the registration section.
  3. Read the Information Bulletin carefully.
  4. Register with your email ID and fill out the online form.
  5. Upload the required documents and pay the application fee online.
  6. Download the confirmation page after successful submission.

🕒 Tip: Apply well before 4th December 2025 to avoid last-minute technical issues.

FMGE Exam Pattern 2025

  • Mode: Computer-based test (CBT)
  • Total Questions: 300 (divided into two parts of 150 each)
  • Type: Multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
  • Marking Scheme: +1 for each correct answer; No negative marking
  • Passing Criteria: Minimum 150 out of 300 marks (50%)
  • Duration: 5 hour (2.5 hours for each part)

FMGE June 2025 – Structure Update (Applicable to December 2025 Session Too)

NBEMS introduced a revised FMGE structure starting from the June 2025 session, which will also be followed for December 2025.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Sections: The exam is now divided into three time-bound sections of 50 minutes each, containing 100 questions per section.
  • Time Limit: You must complete each 100-question section within 50 minutes. Once the timer ends, that section will automatically close.
  • Answer Review: Candidates cannot review or modify answers once a section’s time expires. Each section must be completed before moving to the next.

This new structure tests both speed and accuracy, so candidates should focus on effective time management while practicing.

FMGE 2025 Result

The FMGE result will be declared by 17th February 2026 on the official NBEMS website.
Candidates who qualify will be eligible to apply for Provisional Registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or respective State Medical Councils to begin their medical practice in India.

What is the meaning of provisional registration?

“Provisional registration” means temporary permission given by the National Medical Commission (NMC) or your State Medical Council (SMC) that allows you to start your medical internship or clinical training in India after clearing FMGE.

It’s not a full licence to practise independently yet—it’s like a temporary registration to complete your one-year compulsory internship in a recognised hospital or medical college in India.
